ABOUT
River Stone Academy is an alternative educational program designed for homeschooled children. While we are not a registered private school or a licensed daycare, our academy provides a structured learning environment that prioritizes personalized instruction, real-world skill development, and meaningful relationships. Within our supportive academy setting, students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and personally through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
At River Stone Academy we teach children to connect and apply education to real life. We strive to provide the skills and resources students need to develop into strong learners, able thinkers, and contributing members of their community and world.
We use the overall expectations outlined in the Ontario curriculum as a benchmark for the skill level the children can reach. However, we take a much more organic approach to meeting the educational standards by teaching through hands-on activities. As students learn to demonstrate empathy towards themselves, each other and the broader community, they have the opportunity to become compassionate individuals. At River Stone Academy they are supported to grow into our world’s much-needed, much in demand, creators, problem solvers, innovators and leaders. We will fuel their love of learning and help them be the best they can be! Grade levels may be used as a reference when discussing student progress, although student achievement is not evaluated through the use of grades and levels, but rather on student growth, which will be documented in each child's learning portfolio. Parents are active participants in their children’s learning and development, resulting in a true partnership between our program and families.

River Stone Academy High supports students working toward one of two recognized secondary education pathways, depending on the learner’s goals, learning style, and post-secondary plans
This includes:
• Independent academic studies aligned with high‑school expectations
• Educator‑guided learning blocks for instruction, clarification, and support
• Accountability check‑ins to track progress and completion
• Small‑group learning, discussions, and collaborative projects
• Project‑based learning and applied academic work
• Daily opportunities for outdoor exploration and experiential learning

Personalized Education
The greatest benefit of our small academy is that education can be tailored to each child's specific needs. Free of bureaucracy, standardized tests, and other federal mandates.
Project Based Learning
Meaningful, interactive assignments that engage students are a crucial aspect of our academy model. Applying the skills learned is instrumental for children to adopt and retain them long-term. Additionally, project-based learning teaches creativity, teamwork, problem solving, and other life skills.
Socratic Dialouge
This time-tested method is employed on a regular basis to engage our students in inquisitive conversation. Guided by the educators, an open question is put to the group, and students are free to discuss, debate, and expand. Through directed, purposeful conversation, children learn reason, critical thinking, and objectivity, as well as the soft skills that make up basic interpersonal communication.
